The Hong Kong University of Science and Technology seeks a Director of Institutional Research to provide leadership in the University’s institutional research and assessment initiatives in support of its strategic planning, data-driven analytics and insight, evidence-based decision making, and evaluation of institutional effectiveness.
Reporting to the President and working closely with the senior administration, the Director will be responsible for coordinating institutional research activities and performing all necessary functions related to the collection, analysis and reporting of institutional data. Duties will include leading a small, expert office that undertakes qualitative and quantitative research activities to provide organizational performance and market data; coordinate institution-wide data collection and report to internal stakeholders and external agencies; build and extend the functionality of the University’s data warehouse; coordinate the collection and presentation of statistical analyses and monitor key performance indicators; collect stakeholders’ feedback and research evidence to support institutional quality assurance and development in teaching and learning; and lead institutional participation in international university rankings to keep track of the University’s regional and global standing.
Applicants should have a higher degree in a relevant field with substantial experience in research and analysis, management information and educational administration, preferably in an institution of higher learning. Knowledge of trends and best practices in assessment, benchmarking and performance indicators in higher education will be a definite asset. Excellent interpersonal skills with strong written and oral presentation skills are essential. Ability to be self-directed in formulating analytical summaries, findings and recommendations; strong organizational skills; and ability to work collaboratively with a diverse group of people are qualities required.
Terms & Applications/Nominations
Appointment to the position will be on three-year fixed term contract basis, renewable on mutual agreement. Competitive remuneration and generous fringe benefits, including housing where appropriate, will be provided. A gratuity will be payable upon successful completion of contract.
