The Nuclear Physics group at the University of Manchester requests applications for a position working on the development of a clinical patient-specific Molecular Radiotherapy dosimetry system.
The aim of this work is to make a step change in the accuracy of dosimetry calculations for patients undergoing Molecular Radiotherapy at The Christie. This work is expected to lead to better patient prognosis through a more optimised or patient-specific healthcare-therapy service. The project will use patient-specific 3D printed analogues (phantoms) to provide the foundation for developing a personalised Molecular Radiotherapy service. The development of phantoms providing realistic data for calibration and validation of dosimetry calculations is a critical step in this process. Patient-specific phantoms will be imaged using diagnostic and therapeutic radionuclides at The Christie NHS Foundation Trust. These data will be combined with Monte-Carlo simulations to obtain an improved understanding of the doses received by individual organs and tumours.
The work will be based at the University of Manchester but will involve working with Clinical Scientists and other clinicians at The Christie which is a designated centre of excellence for neuroendocrine tumours with the highest number of patient referrals in the UK.
The University invites applications for the above post which is available from 1st November 2016 tenable to 31st July 2019 in the first instance. Post maybe extended subject to successful further funding.
