The Department of Mathematics at UCL invites applications from outstanding postdoctoral researchers for the Clifford Fellowship in Mathematics. This is a 3-year research post at UCL for talented early-career mathematicians to pursue an independent research programme. The holder of the Clifford Fellowship alternates between pure and applied mathematicians. The successful candidate is expected to undertake high standard research in applied mathematics leading to conference presentations and publication in leading journals, and to contribute to the research environment of the department through interaction with staff and students. A limited amount of teaching at undergraduate level will be expected.
The successful candidate must have a PhD in mathematics or related discipline and a track record of international research excellence and publishing in applied mathematics. Normally candidates should, allowing for career breaks, have no more than four years postdoctoral research experience in an academic environment (calculated from the PhD viva to the application deadline). A written independent research plan will form part of the application and it will be advantageous if the proposed research is related to one of the department's applied mathematics research groups: applied and numerical analysis; fluid mechanics; mathematical physics; mathematical modelling in biology, finance, industry and society.
