The Hamlyn Centre is dedicated to developing safe, effective and accessible imaging, sensing and robotics technologies that can reshape the future of healthcare. Focusing on technological innovation but with a strong emphasis on clinical translation and direct patient benefit with a global impact, the centre is at the forefront of research in imaging, sensing and robotics for addressing global health challenges associated with demographic, environment, social and economic changes.
Applicants are invited to apply for a new position at either Research Assistant (pre-doctoral) or Research Associate (post-doctoral) level funded by a new EPSRC Healthcare Impact Partnerships grant to the Centre for the development of optimal robotic catheter navigation through dynamic vasculature for improved endovascular procedures. The project involves the development of a new master robot manipulator, improved catheter sensing, and improved navigation through shape instantiation and simultaneous catheter and environment mapping. The project is to be carried out by a multidisciplinary team with complementary research skills in robotics, sensing, imaging, and endovascular intervention.
We are looking for outstanding applicants in any of the following areas of research:
- Medical image computing and image guided intervention, particularly for cardio-vascular procedures;
- Co-operative control, manipulation and learning from demonstration for robot assisted intervention;
- Statistical shape modelling and ideally with combined skills in computational fluid dynamics simulation and analysis.
At Research Assistant level you must have a Masters degree (or equivalent) in Mechanical Engineering, Computing, Electronic Engineering, Physics, Biomedical Engineering or a related discipline. At Research Associate level you must have a PhD degree (or equivalent) in the above related disciplines.
The successful applicant will have considerable experience in interdisciplinary research and working for large integrated development projects. A high level of analytical and computing skills is required. Preference will be given to applicants with a proven research record and publications in relevant areas. Applicants must be fluent in English.
