The School of Engineering and Materials Science at Queen Mary University of London has a vacancy for a Postdoctoral Research Assistant (PDRA) to work on an EPSRC funded project EP/P009018/1. This project will be carried out in the research group of Dr Remzi Becer (Polymer Chemistry Laboratory). Currently, Polymer Chemistry Laboratory consists of 14 PhD students, a technician, and an academic. Our laboratories are very well equipped not only for polymer synthesis but also materials characterization. The project aims the synthesis of glycopolymers using various controlled radical polymerization techniques. click reactions and multi component reactions. Moreover, the project will also require studying the interactions of designed glycopolymers and biologically relevant proteins using various analytical techniques. The project team will consist of 3-4 PhD researchers and the appointed PDRA is expected to manage a team on this topic. The project offers an opportunity for an interdisciplinary research at the front end of polymer chemistry and chemical biology. Therefore, an applicant with a desire of becoming an independent academic will be preferred.
The successful candidate will have a PhD in Chemistry, publications in internationally recognised journals and an excellent understanding of polymer synethesis and analysis techniques. Excellent oral and written communication skills are essential.
The post is a full-time, fixed term appointment for 12 months and is available from 30/12/2016.
Starting salary will be £36,064 per annum, inclusive of London Allowance. Benefits include 30 days annual leave, defined benefit pension scheme and interest-free season ticket loan.
Candidates must be able to demonstrate their eligibility to work in the UK in accordance with the Immigration, Asylum and Nationality Act 2006. Where required this may include entry clearance or continued leave to remain under the Points Based Immigration Scheme. The applicants are required to have completed a PhD in Polymer Chemistry and have scored higher than 6.5 in the IELTS language test.
