The Research Associate will carry out leading research to investigate challenges of the digital transformation of civil infrastructure from a systems engineering perspective. The post requires specialist knowledge of systems approaches (which may be in resilient, safe, secure, digital and/or socio-technical systems) and of qualitative data collection methods for research within engineering project organizations and infrastructure owners. Familiarity with qualitative data analysis is needed and with statistical analyses and programming tools is an advantage. The Research Associate is expected to work on associated research projects with industry partners; to contribute to the systems engineering and project management research communities by developing new knowledge and insight and to have the ambition to develop their own research trajectory within the Centre for Systems Engineering and Innovation.

You must have a PhD in engineering (or equivalent) and/or in management, manufacturing or information systems, with a particular interest in technologies and work for appointment at Research Associate level.

You will have knowledge of systems approaches to analysis of industrial challenges and qualitative data-collection and analysis methods. You will have previous experience within a research environment and publication in relevant and refereed journals, and in a broad range of techniques including approaches to qualitative data analysis as well as quantitative approaches. You will be computer literate with a good knowledge of different computer programs with experience in data presentation and analyses.

*Candidates who have not yet been officially awarded their PhD will be appointed as Research Assistant within the salary range £31,740 - £33,370 per annum.
