The Department of Computing is a leading department of Computer Science among UK Universities, and has consistently been awarded the highest research rating. In the 2014 REF assessment, The Department was ranked third (1st in the Research Intensity table published by The Times Higher), and was rated as "Excellent" in the previous national assessment of teaching quality.

The Department wishes to appoint a Principal Teaching Fellow to assume the roles of Deputy Director of Studies and Admissions Tutor.  We run eight Computing degree programmes, four Joint Maths and Computing degree programmes, ten MSc/MRes programmes, and provide service teaching on several Engineering Programmes.  The post holder will manage the students’ educational experience and work with the undergraduate and postgraduate Directors of Studies to formulate teaching policy for our courses, as well as being an active member of the teaching staff.  They will also take responsibility for managing the Teaching Fellows and joint responsibility for the team of support staff and teaching assistants to ensure smooth day-to-day running of teaching operations.  As Admissions Tutor they will be responsible for meeting admissions targets and standards, and for attracting the best students to apply for our degrees and take up offers made.

Applicants should have a PhD in Computer Science or closely related discipline and experience of leadership in the administration of academic teaching and learning. Broad knowledge of the computer science curriculum and experience of delivering high quality and innovative teaching are essential, in addition to specialized knowledge of admissions and course administration. They must be an excellent communicator with experience of producing clear and concise written material.

As this post is exempt from the Rehabilitation of Offenders Act 1974, a satisfactory enhanced Disclosure and Barring Service check will be required for the successful candidate.

The post will be based at the South Kensington Campus.
