We require a motivated and qualified Scientific Software Engineer to join the UK Earth system model core development team, which has responsibility to develop, apply, evaluate and support the use of future generation UK Earth system models (UKESM). The applicant will work on developing and supporting the use of flexible software tools for diagnostic evaluation of UKESM simulations. A key requirement will be regular interaction with a range of UK scientists engaged in the development and evaluation of UKESM, in particular working with these scientists to support the development of novel evaluation tools.

You will have:

  • - a PhD in computational science, mathematics or a quantitative physical science (or equivalent research experience)
  • - a clear ability to develop novel approaches to handling large volumes of simulation data.
  • - Extensive experience in programming languages such as; Python, Unix/Linux, C++, Fortran
  • - Knowledge of programming in a massively parallel environment.

Past experience in working with large geophysical numerical models would be an advantage
