Electrical Workshop Supervisor

An opportunity has arisen for an individual to join the Electrical Technical Support team providing a high level of specialist electrical technical support to the Faculty of Engineering. The role holder will be responsible for the day to day management and supervision of the Electrical team, liaising with teaching, research and technical members of staff to provide an electrical technical support facility for the Faculty of Engineering, and prioritising the workload to ensure electrical installations are completed efficiently and within agreed timefames/budgets.

Duties will include:

- Management of Electrical Engineering Technical team. Managing discipline, sickness, motivation, progression, training, time and attendance. Ensuring the technicians remain up to date on their current electrical knowledge and an even distribution of electrical skills exists across the team.

- Management of the facilities workload to ensure all requests for electrical support are completed in a timely and cost effective manner.

- Controlling the Electrical workshop and monitoring on-site works. Managing security and ensuring restricted access where applicable. Making sure only trained electrical technicians use the facilities and equipment. Making sure all electrical test equipment is kept in calibration and that the equipment is correctly maintained and records kept.

- Liaise with the Faculty Infrastructure team to advise on electrical supplies and new installations within the Faculty, ensuring electrical supplies for refurbishments are adequate and meet current safety requirements.

- Ensure compliance with current BS7671 IET Wiring Regulations, including carrying out safety inspections and writing process and risk assessments relevant to the Faculty and University of Nottingham Health & Safety requirements.

- Any other duties appropriate to the grade and role of the post holder.

Candidates should have a minimum of HNC in electrical engineering, or equivalent qualifications, plus considerable work experience in relevant role, and also BS 7671 17th Edition (3rd amendment) requirements for electrical installations.
