Summary of Job Purpose and Principal Duties
Applications are invited from suitably qualified dental surgeons for this 0.6 FTE post which offers the incumbent the exciting opportunity to participate in the development of the Dental School’s taught postgraduate programmes with a focus on supporting the ‘flying faculty’ programmes delivered in Cairo, Egypt as well as contributing to clinical teaching and research within a first class environment in the Dental School in Dundee. This post carries with it an appropriate honorary NHS contract at Consultant level.
The successful candidate will join a committed team of clinical academic staff and will be expected to engage with teaching, research and clinical responsibilities. The primary role of the successful candidate will be to work closely with and provide leadership to the team responsible for the delivery of the clinical aspects of the MSc in Restorative Dental Care. The clinical aspects of these programmes are delivered in partnership with the Arab Society of Continuous Dental Education (ASCDE) in their clinical facilities in Cairo, Egypt. An additional position alongside this post with ASCDE as Clinical Director may be open to the successful applicant. Duties will include teaching at undergraduate level and supporting curriculum development within the wider School’s agenda as well as taking on an academic administrative role.
It is expected that the successful candidate will contribute to pedagogic research activity. The incumbent will have the opportunity to link with current research group(s) within the School and pursue a research programme to support the TPG student dissertations generating high quality publications and where appropriate attracting external support. There are excellent opportunities for research within the Dental School, and with Schools elsewhere in the University. All applicants must be on the relevant specialist list of the General Dental Council.
