Lecturer (Assistant Professor)/Senior Lecturer (Associate Professor) in Computational Structural Design
University of Bath - Architecture & Civil Engineering
|Salary:||£39,324 to £55,998 per annum (please see advert text)|
|Placed on:||4th October 2016|
|Closes:||6th November 2016|
The Department of Architecture and Civil Engineering is internationally recognised as a leading centre for research and teaching in the built environment. We came joint top in the 2014 REF and is consistently top of the league tables (First for Architecture and Third for Civil Engineering, 2017 Complete University Guide).
The Department wishes to appoint an outstanding and inspirational academic in the area of computational structural design (i.e. innovative computational methods as part of the design process of civil engineering structures and/or buildings, rather than finite element analysis or BIM). The post is advertised at either Lecturer (Assistant Professor) or Senior Lecturer (Associate Professor) level. The successful candidate will have a scholarly reputation, demonstrated by a significant record of high quality journal publications in the relevant field. We expect applicants for Lecturer level to have some post-doctoral experience. Appointees at Senior Lecturer level will have a more sustained publication track record and a proven track record of teaching, postgraduate student supervision and of obtaining substantial funding for research.
The post holder is expected to make a significant contribution to undergraduate and postgraduate teaching. We are looking for someone with a dedication to the delivery of high quality teaching across a range of subjects within their broad area of expertise. Due to the joint nature of the Department, collaborative, integrated studio-based design is central to our undergraduate teaching across all disciplines. Some experience of practical architectural/engineering design through industry experience would be an advantage. Other duties will depend upon the post holder's background.
All applicants must include a two-page outline of their plans and intentions for research activity and grant capture over the coming five years. This document will be treated in the strictest confidence and with full respect for ownership. This is a mandatory component of the selection process, without which we will be unable to progress your application. Applicants must clearly indicate the relevant post, 'Lecturer' or 'Senior Lecturer' in their application please
Informal enquiries may be made to Professor Stephen Emmitt (+44 (0)1225 384722, email S.Emmitt@bath.ac.uk), Head of Department; or Dr Antony Darby (+44 (0)1225 38 383182, email A.P.Darby@bath.ac.uk), Head of Civil Engineering; or Professor Alex Wright (+44 (0)1225 386604, email A.W.Wright@bath.ac.uk), Head of Architecture.
Both the Department and the University are committed to providing a supportive and inclusive working environment and the Department recently received an Athena SWAN bronze award. We are working to improve the present gender balance within the Department, and particularly welcome applications from women, who are currently under-represented in academic posts.
