We are looking for a Curator to join the Variation Annotation team at the European Bioinformatics Institute (EMBL-EBI) located at the Wellcome Genome Campus near Cambridge in the UK.
The world of molecular biology is getting ready for a methodological revolution, brought in by the discovery of the CRISPR/Cas9 mechanism. Thanks to this protein complex, researchers are developing new protocols to reliably and cost-effectively alter DNA and validate any number of hypotheses in vivo. It is a recent discovery, but already extremely large datasets are being produced.
EMBL-EBI is one of the world’s largest public repositories of biological results, providing resources for scientists to share and re-examine their experiments. We are therefore setting up a new database to capture this wealth of cutting-edge measurements, starting from genome-wide screens then expanding to relevant new protocols as they emerge.
The primary role of this position is to curate publication data and enter them into this new CRISPR database. Typical tasks of the role will comprise:
- Reading publications;
- Interacting with authors to query missing information;
- Collaborating with developers to define the structure of the database and its functionalities;
- Entering the data into this database;
- Communicating the work to researchers in the field, including user support and training;
- Preparing reports and presentations to represent Ensembl at internal meetings.
The EMBL-EBI is part of the European Molecular Biology Laboratory (EMBL) and is Europe's leading provider of information services to biological researchers in academia and industry. The institute is located on the Wellcome Genome Campus at Hinxton, near Cambridge, UK. We enjoy many benefits including sports facilities, a free shuttle bus to Cambridge and other nearby centres, and an attractive working environment set in 55 acres of parkland. Our salary scales are very competitive. For further information please visit www.ebi.ac.uk
