The University of Surrey is proud to be The Times and Sunday Times Good University Guide 2016 ‘University of The Year’ and one of the ‘Top 10’ universities in three major national league tables in 2015 – 2016.  In the latest UK research excellence framework (REF 2014), we were rated 8th out of 94 UK institutions for biosciences, health and veterinary research.

As a result of our new strategic plan and future vision, the School of Biosciences and Medicine and the School of Health Sciences in the Faculty of Health and Medical Sciences are teaming up with Surrey and Sussex Healthcare NHS Trust (SASH) to build a Centre for Ageing Research to continue to add to the successes that the Schools, Faculty and University have already had.

As a result, we are recruiting an exceptional individual at professorial level, who together with the Professor of Nursing- Elderly Care will found this Centre, to contribute to its shape and to develop its success.  There will be two lectureships and two PhD studentships to accompany each of the professorial appointments within this brand new Centre.  Thus, within the School of Health Sciences, we have the following full time academic position available:

Our new Centre for Ageing Research will span the School of Health Sciences, in which this post will be located at Surrey & Sussex Healthcare NHS Trust (SASH) and the School of Biosciences and Medicine.

Within the School of Health Sciences, our research strengths include cancer care; long term conditions and ageing; maternal, child and family health and acute and emergency care.  This post will be located in the cluster of expertise for Long Term Conditions and Ageing in the School of Health Sciences.

We wish to recruit an outstanding researcher with expertise and interests in diseases and care of the elderly who has the ambition and vision to develop this Centre for Ageing Research.

To join our team you will be registered as a nurse with the NMC and assume a 50% clinical appointment at East Surrey Hospital, Redhill with SASH.  You will be a dynamic, forward-looking individual with a ‘can do’ attitude and the ambition to achieve personally.  You will be expected to evidence an outstanding record of achievement in scholarship and research at both national and international levels with a proven strategy to attract and secure research funding.

You will use your skills to build your own research in concert with complementary activities in the School of Health Sciences within the rapidly growing and evolving Faculty that are tackling some of the major challenges facing society, including an ageing population, disease burden and food security.  Opportunities to interact across the three other Schools (School of Biosciences and Medicine; Veterinary Medicine; Psychology) within the Faculty are positively encouraged.
