We are seeking to appoint a Research Associate to work closely with Dr Richard Byers and take part in a new and innovative project to develop novel imaging software that could change the way we manage cancer patients, specifically by improving precision of cancer diagnosis. You will work with senior computer scientists based within the University of Manchester and with imaging scientists at CRUK-Manchester Institute to automate prognostic pattern recognition in tissue samples from patients with a range of human cancers.
You will be a researcher at post-doctoral level with experience of image analysis, preferably digital pathology. However, any other imaging area in which 2D or 3D images are analysed will be appropriate. Expertise in machine learning is essential; further support is available from collaborators who are experts in this field. Experience of R and Mathematica will be advantageous but not essential if other similar experience is held. Knowledge of cancer treatment would also be useful though the team has extensive expertise in this area.
The School is committed to promoting equality and diversity, including the Athena SWAN charter for promoting women’s careers in STEMM subjects (science, technology, engineering, mathematics and medicine) in higher education. The School holds a Bronze Award for their commitment to the representation of women in the workplace and we particularly welcome applications from women for this post.
