Grade/Salary: Research Officer. The current salary scale for this post is €31,729 to €62,700.
Remuneration may be adjusted from time to time in line with Government Policy.
Post Type: Permanent Appointment
A panel may be formed from which future similar vacancies may be filled; such a panel will remain active for a maximum period of 12 months.
Basic Function: To develop, lead and implement a research programme in aspects of Dairy chemistry within Teagasc. Candidates should have a comprehensive understanding of milk chemistry (protein, fat, carbohydrates, minerals and vitamins) and potential impact for Dairy processing sector. The successful candidate will be tasked with building a team with focus on studying the nutrient and surrounding chemistry of milk. While a particular focus will be placed on protein and/or fat, knowledge of the chemistry of minor components in milk is also required. The role should involve the development of new thinking on the chemical interactions and forces present in milk as influenced by different external factors such as pH, heat and addition of cationic or anionic species. The appointee will be responsible for taking on leadership role in dissemination of these new research findings, e.g., as peer reviewed publications or as directly applied to Industry. The role will involve transfer of relevant research to commercial application through interaction with industrial clients, including management of intellectual property as appropriate.
Note: The ‘Essential’ qualifications, skills and knowledge outlined below are ‘must-have’ which will be used in the shortlisting process.
- Candidates must have a QQI Honours Level 8 degree in Food/Dairy science or a related discipline.
- PhD in a relevant discipline
Note: While a PhD is an essential requirement for this post, equivalent research experience may be deemed acceptable solely at the discretion of the Director of Teagasc
- A post-graduate qualification in leadership or management
