The Department of Physics invites applications for three Fellowships in Cosmology and Gravitational Physics.
Our theoretical cosmology programme at Oxford includes large scale structure, weak lensing, galaxy formation, galaxy evolution, cosmic background radiation anisotropy, intensity mapping, early universe physics, dark matter, dark energy and modified gravity. There is also expertise in black hole physics, compact objects (observational and theoretical), the early universe and galactic dynamics.
The postdolder(s) would contribute to the recently funded ERC project to study "Large Scale Structure Constraints of General Relativity"; the job would involve theoretical and/or numerical research in cosmology and gravitational physics, led by Pedro Ferreira and the postholder(s) would be encouraged to interact with other members of the Oxford faculty working in these fields. They will develop a personal research programme in theoretical cosmology and gravitational physics (which may include numerical modelling and/or data analysis), interacting with faculty members. They will also take part in the academic life of BIPAC and the astrophysics group at the Physics Department, in particular attending and taking part in seminars, colloquia and journal clubs. In addition, the postholder(s) will attend international conferences to present the results of work at Oxford, and prepare articles for publication on research results.
The appointments are for a fixed-term of 2 years with a possible extension of 1 year, and are based in Oxford Astrophysics. The successful candidate(s) will have or be about to receive a PhD in a relevant area of astronomy, physics or engineering, have a proven record of research in this area and a demonstrated capacity for independent work. They should preferably be capable of initiating research in a lively group with significant interaction between theory and analysis of data, and have expertise in theory and/or analysis in areas of strong overlap with cosmology faculty members. The postholder(s) will have the opportunity to teach.
