Policy Support Officer

Durham University - Governance

We are seeking to appoint a Governance Policy Support Officer to a permanent role within the University's Secretary's Office. The University Secretary is responsible for the oversight of the University's overall governance, assurance and compliance framework and processes and provides independent advice to the University's governing body (the Council) Senate and the Vice-Chancellor. The University Secretary's Office (USO) comprises three professional services sections: Governance and Executive Support (GES), Legal Services (LS), and the University Assurance Service (UAS).

The post-holder will be a member of the GES team which provides support to the University Secretary and secretariat services to the University Executive Committee, Senate, Council and its committees, managing the flow of business between these bodies. It also supports a range of projects to improve the University's governance arrangements and operations.

You will be responsible for supporting:

  • The work of committees and groups (40%)
  • Projects and policy preparation (30%)
  • Coordinated management of business (20% - both roles)
  • The effective operation of the GES team (10% - both roles)
