Chief Executive Officer (CEO)
Exeter Science Park
|Salary:||£70,000 to £90,000 (incl. car allowance) + bonus + benefits + relocation (negotiable on experience)|
|Placed on:||12th October 2016|
|Closes:||4th November 2016|
Exeter Science Park has been established to drive a knowledge-based economy in the South West. Set to house one of the world’s most powerful supercomputers for the Met Office, our aim is to grow science, technology, engineering, data, environmental and medicine enterprises across the region; encouraging knowledge sharing between scientists and business, as well as incubating new disruptive technologies.
Seeking an innovative and pragmatic individual to help form a strategic vision to drive the Park forwards, and with the practical skills to make it a success. Working closely with the Board and stakeholders, you’ll use your expertise to take the Park into its next exciting phase, building on our success of generating over £50m to establish the Park and securing its first clients.
Your role will develop an exciting yet realistic business plan (including finance and funding); attracting the right businesses and supporting the development of new start-ups in order to build a strong science and technology community who are keen to share knowledge and engage with the local public research base. As an ambassador for the project, you’ll take pride in promoting it to relevant stakeholders and customers (from organisations to researchers) and generating new business through effective networking and marketing across the region, UK and worldwide. In collaboration with your team, you’ll oversee the building of new units to correct specifications, managing the space to encourage interaction and solving problems across the site. In addition, you’ll build and manage a strong team on site, recruiting the right skills to support you and developing their expertise accordingly.
You’re energetic and self-motivated, always happy to take a different view and drive innovation but with strong self-awareness and sound judgment. With exceptional interpersonal and communication skills (in written and spoken English), you relate to people of all backgrounds with ease, utilising your selling, storytelling, negotiation and influencing skills to command respect. As a commercial individual (an MBA would be beneficial) with a sound understanding of finance, you’ve worked with large and small businesses in the private and public sectors, and understand their diverse challenges and needs. With a strong background in a science or technology subject you’ll ideally hold a degree level qualification (or above) with significant experience of making a difference within related industries. You enjoy managing and developing people, but aren’t afraid to have the difficult conversations. A practical understanding of current technology trends would be advantageous, but a passion for science and technology is most important. Experience of building and managing commercial property would be beneficial, as would experience in marketing. Flexibility for UK, and potentially some international, travel will be required.
In return, we offer a competitive salary package (including bonus scheme and car allowance), and generous pension and holiday scheme; we also offer a range of other benefits to support our team, including ongoing development opportunities. This is an exciting chance to be part of a progressive and cutting edge business, where you can really make a difference. A relocation package is available.
To apply, please send your CV with cover letter to firstname.lastname@example.org by 4th November or call 01271 859267.
