Location: Southampton General Hospital
Part Time, Permanent (4 hours per week)
We are looking for a proactive, reliable and customer focused person to join our team in the Health Services Library. Located at Southampton General Hospital, we support University staff and students in the Faculties of Medicine and Health Sciences, plus staff in the University Hospital Southampton and Solent NHS Trusts. Your role will be to provide a loans service on Saturday morning and Sunday afternoon, every other weekend. Your main duties will be:
- Staffing the loans desk, issuing and returning books to users.
- Reshelving returned books and maintaining the order of stock on the shelves.
- Offering help to library users, and referring enquiries on to specialist staff when appropriate.
- Opening and closing the library at the end of each shift. Your working pattern will be 09:00 – 13:00 on Saturday and 14:00 – 18:00 on Sunday.
You will work every other weekend, and for most of this time you will be the only member of library staff on duty. You will need to have the flexibility to offer cover for colleagues who work other weekend shifts, and have excellent communication skills as you will be working with a diverse group of users. You will also need to have experience of working with computers and online information systems, and have the ability to plan and organise your own workload. For an informal discussion about this post, please contact Ric Paul, Head of the Health Services Library, email: R.M.Paul@soton.ac.uk or telephone 023 8120 6542 .
You should submit your completed online application form at www.jobs.soton.ac.uk. The application deadline will be midnight on the closing date stated above. If you need any assistance, please call Jennifer Dickson (Recruitment Team) on +44 (0) 23 8059 3462.
