Purpose and Main Duties
We are seeking to appoint an experienced and enthusiastic administrator and manager to join a School committed to theoretically-informed, critical and multidisciplinary research and teaching.

The Assistant School Manager in Law will work closely with the School Manager to plan and manage the delivery of professional, high quality administrative services to support the School in the delivery of its strategic aims.

You will be required to demonstrate an understanding of the current strategic issues within the HE sector, as well as strong management and organisational skills. You will have a track record of successful development of systems and processes to improve efficiency and effectiveness.

An experienced multi-tasker, you will be capable of building teams and supporting them to adapt to the changing needs within the School and will have a flexible approach to managing a number of concurrent projects.

About the Department
Although the youngest of the six London University Law Schools, Birkbeck School of Law houses a large and expanding community. Founded in 1992, the School has grown from 3 members of academic staff to a body of 33 and a student intake of 941 in 2014-15.

Research at the School of Law centres on critical legal theory, philosophy, and socio-legal approaches to Law and Criminology. We are a top 10 research institution in the UK and top 3 in London, while our research environment was judged conducive to producing research of the highest quality.

Further Information

Salary: Grade 8 of the College's London Pay Scale which is £42,913 rising to £50,514 per annum.

This post is full time, 35 hours per week (1.0 FTE) and fixed term for up to 1 year. The salary quoted above is on the College's London Pay Scale and includes a consolidated Weighting/Allowance which applies only to staff whose normal contractual place of work is in the Greater London area. The initial salary will be dependent on the skills and experience of the successful applicant. The appointment is subject to a probationary period of 6 months.
