The role and its responsibilities
We have an opportunity for a Senior Systems Developer to join the Information Systems division of the Library and Information Services Directorate. This is a key role designed to bridge the gap between the developer and the business and to ensure that issues are correctly documented and understood so that development work can be focused on exact customer requirements. The role also undertakes development tasks which may include programming (including web and database programming) and some hardware configuration.
As a Senior Systems Developer within Corporate Systems (Business Services) you will manage small projects and provide guidance and mentoring to Analyst Programmers and contract staff. You will liaise with Suppliers and will represent Information Systems to the School and in particular to the users of the School’s Business Services.
Skills, qualifications and experience
You will have experience and knowledge of all phases of the software development cycle and will have detailed knowledge of the operation of enterprise class information systems. You will be able to demonstrate a proactive, tenacious and effective approach to problem solving and to the resolution of complex technical issues. Excellent communication skills and customer care skills are vital in this role. Experience of working with Finance Systems, particularly Unit4’s Business World, and HR Systems, particularly Northgate’s ResourceLink would be an advantage.
Your programming experience will include substantial use of SQL. Experience of programming and scripting languages such as Web Development, Perl and the LAMP stack would be an advantage.
