The University of Oxford is seeking an exceptional science communicator with a sharp mind and journalistic flair for the role of Media Relations Manager. The media activity of this world-renowned and much-scrutinised institution is often demanding but always exciting. You will share the overall work of the team in the University’s News and Information Office (see http://po.st/EzXGC2), but will have particular responsibility for engaging the media with the world-leading work of Oxford’s Mathematical, Physical and Life Sciences Division. Ranging across many scientific disciplines, you will cover everything from the origins of the universe to the development of self-driving cars. You will also work closely with colleagues in promoting Oxford’s achievements in enterprise and innovation, including new commercial technologies and spin-out companies.
With first-hand communications and media experience at national level or equivalent, you’ll have a strong news sense, a sound understanding of journalism, writing talent and a hungry intellect, capable of readily grasping complex scientific concepts. You will cover a very wide range of research, enterprise, education and policy issues so you must be a fast learner with a retentive memory, as well as being diplomatic and resilient.
Working as part of a busy team, you’ll find yourself quoted regularly as a University spokesperson in the national and international media. If you want to tell the world about a world-class university and research that really makes a difference, we want to hear from you.
This post is a maternity cover for 9 months with possible extension to 12 months.
Please note that the closing day for applications is 12.00 midday on 26 October 2016. Interviews will be held in the week of 31 October 2016.
