Contract Duration: 3 years

Grading: 3 (monthly salary starting at £2,149 after tax plus other allowances where applicable)

Job Description

We are looking to recruit an enthusiastic and professional HR Administrator to join our busy HR Team at the European Bioinformatics Institute (EMBL-EBI).

EMBL-EBI is part of EMBL, Europe’s flagship laboratory for the life sciences and is located on the Wellcome Trust Genome Campus near Cambridge in the UK. Our 600 staff from more than 40 countries are engaged in basic research in computational biology, and providing bioinformatics services and training, supporting researchers in academia and industry.

Reporting to the Senior HR Officer, you will be a member of a small HR team responsible for delivering a high quality, comprehensive HR and recruitment service to the Institute. You will also be part of a wider EMBL HR function with close links to HR colleagues based in EMBL headquarters in Heidelberg, Germany.

The role is varied and includes:

  • Setting up interviews, inviting candidates and processing related travel reimbursement claims
  • Preparing and submitting visa applications
  • Preparing employment contracts and related documentation
  • Maintaining HR records in SAP
  • Coordinating and tracking key HR processes including recruitment and performance management
  • Producing reference and other supporting letters for staff 

Qualifications and Experience

We are looking for someone who can demonstrate a high standard of professionalism, organisation skills and technical ability. If you can also show a track record of delivering in a multicultural environment this will be an advantage. The ideal candidate will have a minimum of 3 years of relevant experience in administrative roles, preferably in HR.

A high level of customer orientation and strong interpersonal skills are essential in this position.

Excellent computer skills, including knowledge of Microsoft Office with expert knowledge of Excel are required. Experience of working with an Enterprise Resource Planning (ERP) system, particularly SAP, will be an advantage.

You will be able to demonstrate a conscientious attitude, numerical accuracy and the ability to work independently in your area of responsibility, seeking guidance when required. You will enjoy working in a fast-paced environment and be able to prioritise and deliver under pressure and within tight schedules.

Excellent verbal and written English skills are essential, and working knowledge of German and/or French will be an advantage.
