The Department of Modern Languages and Cultures seeks to employ a Lecturer in Chinese to contribute to its wide range of teaching and research activities. The Department delivers a rich portfolio of undergraduate combined degrees in Chinese, which now also includes a new route called ‘Global Communication’. At postgraduate level, the department teaches Chinese on the MA in Translation and Interpreting. Our MRes Translating Cultures and the MA International Liaison and Communication are cross-disciplinary complements to this Chinese specific provision. Our PhD programme primarily focuses on French and Chinese cultural studies, as well as translation studies.
A significant part of the post holder’s teaching will be in the field of Chinese into English translation at postgraduate level, but he or she will also be expected to teach Chinese language and cultural studies at undergraduate level. We are looking for somebody with a research profile in Chinese studies, which will complement existing research within the department, for example in the field of intercultural communication. The post-holder will be expected to perform administrative duties and to supervise research projects at all levels. The post holder will hold a PhD and will have an emerging research profile as evidenced in peer-reviewed publications.
Interviews are likely to be held on: 15 December 2016
