Educational Services & Research (ESR) is looking for candidates for the position of:

for Stenden Hotel Management School
Location: Leeuwarden, The Netherlands

The organisation
Stenden University is an international university with locations in Leeuwarden, Emmen, Groningen, Meppel, Assen, Doha (Qatar), Bali (Indonesia), Bangkok (Thailand) and Port Alfred (South Africa). Around 11,000 students study at Stenden and there are 900 employees. As knowledge institute Stenden is involved in education, research and knowledge valorisation. The university has as its mission ‘unleashing potential in students, staff and surrounding communities’. This social assignment arises from our vision ‘Serving to make it a better world’.

The programmes on offer consist of five associate degrees, 21 bachelor programmes and 5 master programmes in the domains Service Management, Education, Care, Economy and Technology. Stenden has 15 Professorships of Applied Sciences that, partly through applied research, ensure a connection between programmes and the professional field.

Place in the organization
Educational support and advice is organised on a central level with the Education & Research Expertise team of the department ESR (Expertise, Services & Research). ESR focuses on the development of education, organisation of education and student support.

Stenden Hotel Management School (Stenden HMS) is an international institute with approximately 2500 students and over 100 employees. The School offers ‘real world’, internationally oriented educational programmes, designed to prepare students for operational and management positions in the hospitality industry, and other service related companies. Stenden HMS programmes are delivered at national and international branch campuses.

The educational consultant will be working for Stenden Hotel Management School (SHMS). He/she will be working together closely with the lecturers and management team of the School and the educational consultants of the Education & Research Expertise team on a central level. He/she holds (together with SHMS) joint responsibility for the continuous improvement of the (quality of) curriculum of the School. He/she will be reporting to Mieke Schuurman, team leader Expertise Services and Research.

The Position
The position of Educational Consultant incorporates the following tasks:

  • initiation and advice on programme level initiatives for educational innovation and development (e.g. Life Long learning, Blended learning, Digital examination & Digital Assessment Literacy of the teachers, Distinctive programmes for high-achieving students);
  • advises & supports on development of the curriculum academic delivery and assessment;
  • advises & supports the International Branch Campuses on educational matters and adjustments to the curriculum;
  • take a proactive and leading role in relation to preparing for and undertaking accreditation, and certification in relation to educational matters;
  • work closely in collaboration with Quality and Information Management consultant;
  • advises the educational committees (e.g. Curriculum Quality Committee, Exam Committee).

The Profile
Do you:

  • have an Academic Master degree in Education (with emphasis on Educational quality management)?
  • have extensive (preferably international) work experience and are you aware of and sensitive to intercultural issues within higher education as an educational consultant/instructional designer?
  • have knowledge of, and experience with, accreditation of educational programmes?
  • have experience and the ability to work within a complex environment?
  • have strong analytical and writing skills (reports, policy documents, etc.)?
  • an excellent oral and written command of English?
  • have the skills in being creative, powerful, independent, proactive and personal leadership?
  • have a hands-on mentality?
  • show you are a team player and being cooperative?
