Research Assistant (78550-106)

University of Warwick - Department of Computer Science

A research assistant position in the area of ‘digital wildfires’ and social media governance is available until 30th September 2017, starting late October 2016 (the start date to be negotiated).

The position is available in connection with an impact acceleration award to Professor Rob Procter. The main objective is to address these gaps in understanding of how to promote effective governance of people’s conduct on social media by developing a set of training resources for key professional groups. The resources will support these groups in their decision-making about social media practices and their promotion of responsibility and resilience amongst social media users. They will provide a basis for wider dissemination and training and we will also scope opportunities for the development of further training tools.

You will be expected to develop training materials based on findings of the Digital Wildfires project, organise stakeholder workshops, interview stakeholders, write reports and contribute to publications.

You will have a background in humanities and social sciences with a background in the challenges relating to the conflicting tensions between freedom of expression, censorship, etc. in online media spaces.

You should provide with your application for a CV including a research statement and a short statement highlighting your suitability for this post.

You will be formally based in the Department of Computer Science of the University of Warwick, and you will be associated with the Human Centered Computing Division.

For further information, please contact Professor Rob Procter.
