Postdoctoral Research Scientist

The Beatson Institute for Cancer Research

Leukocyte Dynamics Group
Dr Leo Carlin

Initial 3 year fixed term contract (with possibility of up to 2 year extension)

The Cancer Research UK Beatson Institute in Glasgow is one of Europe's leading cancer research centres. It supports cutting-edge research into the molecular mechanisms of cancer development. The Institute provides an outstanding research environment, underpinned by state-of-the-art core services and advanced technologies with special emphasis on imaging, metabolomics and in vivo models of cancer.

The Leukocyte Dynamics Group is looking to recruit a Postdoctoral Research Scientist to join our lab.  We study how immune cells interact with each other, the endothelium and other cells in cancer. We are also interested in the basic molecular mechanisms of immune cell migration and how this relates to function in vivo. For example, the lung microvasculature has clear differences to other vascular beds in terms of diameter, proximity to the external environment and as the site of gas exchange. Several important questions remain regarding the nature of immune regulation in the lung and how this affects colonisation by tumour cells.  We are using advanced microscopy to address these questions in context

You will have successfully completed a PhD in a field relevant to (Tumour) Immunology, Cell Biology, Vascular Biology or Biological Light Microscopy.

You will have published primary research papers on relevant topics and have great enthusiasm for experimental design and a practice.  In addition to on-going projects in the lab, you will be encouraged to develop your own ideas and interests within the general area of leukocyte dynamics and cancer. Training will be provided for all aspects of the work, but you will be expected to be proactive and ambitious.
