The Office of Student Complaints, Appeals and Regulation (OSCAR) is responsible for processing all academic appeals, fitness to practice cases, fitness to study matters, complaints, managed exclusion orders and student disciplinary issues. The role holder will be responsible for providing expert advice and guidance to staff and students. It is expected that candidates will possess experience of acting as a Panel Secretary and implementing regulations and procedures.
The role involves liaison with a wide range of contacts including colleagues at all levels, students and external agencies. A high level of communication and interpersonal skills will be required as will the ability to deal with sensitive and confidential issues appropriately. The role will occasionally expose the post holder to distressing matters which require a high degree of emotional competence in order to manage and resolve cases. The post holder will therefore be required to flexibly deal with these incidents, whilst maintaining a high level of professionalism and continuing to service concurrent work.
The work involves direct contact with a range of external contacts which include solicitors, the police and community mental health professionals. This is a role for an exceptionally organised individual with excellent attention to detail and the ability to prioritise to meet often conflicting deadlines. The role-holder will be expected to exercise a high degree of initiative and judgement within their remit and to take a pro-active approach to decision making in order to achieve results. The role holder will also have experience of conducting investigations.
It is expected that the successful candidate will have a proven track record in Higher Education administration. The successful candidate will also work within the Assessment & Awards team at peak times during the academic year.
