Director, Master of Veterinary Medicine (MVM) Programme

Massey University - Institute of Veterinary, Animal and Biomedical Sciences

Massey University’s Institute of Veterinary, Animal, and Biomedical Sciences is seeking to appoint a Director of the Master of Veterinary Medicine (MVM) programme. As the first and only university in New Zealand to offer veterinary science, we have a long history of expertise in veterinary-related study and research. Massey’s veterinary school is ranked fourth in the world by employers in the Quacquarelli Symonds (QS) ranking and twenty-fifth overall in the latest subject rankings for universities from the international agency Quacquarelli Symonds (QS).

As the Director of MVM programme, you will lead a team of contracted and Massey University staff, providing high quality international distance learning experiences for postgraduate veterinarians in the MVM programme. As well as teaching within the MVM in your area of speciality, you will work to identify and realise opportunities for continued international expansion of the programme. The Institute offers strong support for research and a salary level that allows for a very comfortable lifestyle in New Zealand. You will be based at the University’s home-base Manawatu campus, in Palmerston North. The lifestyle is one of affordable easy living. Beautiful homes, short commutes, and stunning scenery make Palmerston North City and Manawatu the perfect place to live.

You must hold a PhD and be an enthusiastic and innovative educator, with a veterinary degree immediately registerable with the Veterinary Council of New Zealand and a specialist qualification or equivalent expertise in your veterinary discipline area. You will have demonstrated skills and experience in teaching, academic leadership and team management, and be willing to drive diversification and expansion of the programme. You will also need to have excellent interpersonal and communication skills, self-motivation, creativity and an interest in e-learning.

Enquiries may be directed to Liz Norman, current Director of the MVM programme, via email to or telephone +64 6 951 8115.
