The University of Surrey is a global university with a world-class research profile and an enterprising spirit. Inventive and forward-thinking, its heritage shows a recurring theme of going its own way, doing things differently – and achieving notable results. The University of Surrey has risen in all major league tables for UK universities in the past year. We’re incredibly proud to have been named University of the Year by The Times and Sunday Times Good University Guide 2016. We’ve climbed from sixth to fourth place in the Guardian University Guide for 2016, moved up to eighth place in the Complete University Guide 2016. Additionally, we have been ranked as 5th in the National Student Survey which showed student satisfaction at 92%.
Members of our academic staff have international reputations for research and are experienced legal practitioners, providing consultancy to law firms, governments, non-governmental organisations and businesses around the world. The School enjoys excellent links with local, national and international legal communities. The School has particular expertise in Anti-Corruption Law, Environmental Law, Corporate and Commercial Law, Criminal Law, Health Sciences and Law, Chinese Comparative Law and Socio-Legal Studies, Human Rights Law, International Law, Tax Law, Legal Philosophy and Legal Theory.
The School aims to become one of the UK’s top 10 law schools, and there are firm strategic plans in place to support this growth and ambition. We aim to expand our academic programme and our strong commitment to scholarship by hiring exceptional faculty candidates.
We are seeking to appoint to Lecturer B level posts in any area of law. Applicants will have the ability to develop courses and conduct theoretical and/or empirical research in a specific field of law. Candidates will bring a potential to develop an excellent record of scholarship and research of world-class significance and rigour, demonstrated by a publication profile. The candidate should also show a potential of generating sustained research funding. Additionally, candidates will demonstrate a record of outstanding teaching at both undergraduate and postgraduate levels.
Candidates should be keen to show resourcefulness and enthusiasm for improving learning and teaching at undergraduate and postgraduate level and be willing to contribute to the teaching of at least one foundation subject of a qualifying law degree.
This is a period of exciting development and opportunity for the School of Law; the successful candidates will participate in developing innovative approaches to research and teaching that contribute to achieving our goal of becoming a world-renowned law school.
In return we can offer a generous remuneration package, which includes relocation assistance where appropriate, an attractive research environment, the latest teaching facilities, and access to a variety of staff development opportunities.
