This developing research expertise builds upon and complements our already well established reputation for excellence in teaching and learning. Our policy is to combine these elements of our work in keeping with the University’s stated academic profile as a research-informed teaching University of distinction. It is in this context that we now seek scholars in a number of areas who will join with us in pursuit of excellence; these opportunities include the post of:

Postdoctoral Teaching Fellow in Sociology

In the context of good recruitment and an expanding academic portfolio Liverpool Hope University is currently increasing its social science provision and to this end a new Department of Social Science began operating formally in September 2013. Sociology is part of the foundation of the new Department and this post offers an exciting opportunity to help build and shape sociology at Hope. Sociology is currently offered as part of a joint honours degree (a major) and tends to be studied alongside criminology, psychology or social policy (although other combinations are possible). A single honours degree in Sociology is planned to begin in September 2017. The Department is keen to grow and the successful candidate will be a key player in those ambitions.

Applications are invited for an outstanding candidate with a broad knowledge and experience of sociology. The successful applicant with have responsibility for teaching on the undergraduate programme in sociology and will help to plan the design and delivery of the developing degree. Teaching will also be expected on the MA Sociology programme which began this year. We welcome applications from those with expertise in any major area of sociology, although knowledge of quantitative methods is desirable. Successful candidates are required to have a PhD in sociology.

The Department places an emphasis on teaching that is research-informed. Though this is a Post-Doctoral Teaching Fellowship the new Fellow will be encouraged to develop her/ his research profile and to encourage other in the same. All members of the department play an active role in supporting, where appropriate, CPD, enterprise and outreach activities

We recruit staff nationally and internationally as we seek out the best to help build Hope for the future. If you join us you will be doing so at an exciting and challenging time as we work to build a liberal arts inspired university of distinction in the UK. If you have the energy, drive and commitment to assist us in this task, we would be delighted to hear from you.
