Let’s create the future together
Nottingham Trent University’s strategic vision is focussed on ‘Creating the University of the Future’, transforming the lives of our students and through them world in which we live. We are making a major investment in academic talent across research, teaching and business engagement; with confidence in their creativity and commitment as leaders of their disciplines, we will successfully implement our ambitious strategy.
Leading higher education in the UK has never been more replete with opportunities and challenges than it is today. If you aspire to play a major role in ensuring Nottingham Trent University leads the way in this changing landscape, we have a number of exciting leadership opportunities that will give you the platform to transform the future of our students, our colleagues, and our civic and business partners.
Overseeing the work of around 50 people, including Principal Lecturers, Readers, Professors, and other academic, administrative and technical staff, you will provide the strategic direction for this ambitious department that has a dual focus on Sociology and Criminology - and a strong reputation for producing world-leading research that is impacting directly on society. You will therefore oversee all academic outputs, from subject leadership and curriculum development, to maintaining the incredibly high standards of teaching, research and practice. Ensuring Key Performance Indicators are met, you will safeguard the student experience, and look for ways to work collaboratively across the schools.
In order to ensure the Sociology department is playing its part in producing students and staff who can influence the next generation, you will seek ways to build a national and international profile for the school. Expanding on our reputation for expertise in Youth Justice and Youth Studies, you will build connections and seek to ensure our courses are validated and accredited. You will also promote an active research environment in which ideas are celebrated and potential revenue streams are explored. Leading by example, you will maintain your own research activities and will encourage cross-University engagement, with a particular emphasis on participatory and collaborative research.
With around 1,000 students studying at undergraduate and postgraduate level and ongoing research in the areas of hate crime, migration and sustainability - to name but a few - applications from those with a doctoral degree in a related discipline are welcomed. With evidence of continuing professional development and experience of working at a similar level in a higher education role, you will be a confident leader with outstanding interpersonal and communication skills. Accountable for managing budgets and staff, you will have a strong reputation for research in Sociology and/or Criminology.
If you are ready to take on an exciting senior leadership opportunity with us, you will find further information and details of how to apply at NTUopportunities.co.uk.
