Postdoctoral Research Associate in Quantum Condensed Matter Theory

University of Oxford - Physical and Theoretical Chemistry

Postdoctoral Research Associate in Quantum Condensed Matter Theory (up to four posts)

Applications are invited for up to four Postdoctoral Research Associates to perform research on the theory of condensed matter working with Professors J T Chalker, F Essler, P Fendley, D E Logan and S Simon. The positions are supported from an EPSRC grant for work on Quantum Matter in and Out of Equilibrium. The posts are available for a fixed-term period of 2 years starting from 1 October 2017, with possible extension for a third year.

The successful candidates will work in collaboration with the Investigators on research supported by the grant. This allows considerable flexibility but has as its main themes: Disorder in Correlated Quantum Matter, Characterisation and Detection of Topological Matter, Non-Equilibrium Quantum States of Matter, Geometric Descriptions of Topological Phases.

The successful candidates will hold (or be about to complete) a PhD/DPhil in physics, or a closely related field. The post holders are expected to conduct research in collaboration with the theoretical condensed matter physics group at Oxford University.

Duties will include carrying out research in theoretical physics within the general areas supported by the EPSRC grant and collaborating in the preparation of scientific reports and journal articles.

The posts will be based in the Physical and Theoretical Chemistry Laboratory, South Parks Road, Oxford, OX1 3QZ.

Candidates must submit applications online via:

The closing date for applications is 12.00 noon on 30 January 2017.

The University of Oxford and Department of Chemistry are Athena SWAN Silver Award holders.
