Postdoctoral Research Assistant in Geometric Aspects of Gauge and String Theories

University of Oxford - Mathematical Institute

(two posts)

Andrew Wiles Building, Radcliffe Observatory Quarter, Woodstock Road, Oxford

We invite applications for two Postdoctoral Research Assistants (PDRA), funded by the ERC Consolidator Grant "Higgs Bundles: Supersymmetric Gauge Theories and Geometry (HIGGSBNDL)" to work with Professor Sakura Schafer-Nameki at the Mathematical Institute, University of Oxford.  These are two 3 year fixed-term positions, potentially extendable to a 4th year, and are available from April 2017, or as soon as possible thereafter.

The aim of the project is to study the relation between supersymmetric gauge theories, M5-branes and geometric structures. One of the focus areas will be four-manifolds and the correspondence to two-dimensional (0,2) theories. More broadly, applicants with an expertise in supersymmetric gauge theories their relation to geometric structures are particularly encouraged to apply. Excellence of the candidates will however be the determining factor in the selection process.

Applicants should have a PhD awarded before the starting date of the position in an area related to theoretical and mathematical physics, the ability to pursue independent research, both technically and in developing ideas and excellent communication skills.

Please direct informal enquiries to the Administrative Assistant, quoting vacancy reference 126273.

Applicants should read the job description before writing their application. You will be required to upload a letter setting out how you meet the selection criteria, a curriculum vitae including full list of publications, a statement of research interests and the contact details of three referees as part of your online application. (NOTE: Applicants are responsible for contacting their referees and making sure that their letters are received by the closing date.)

Only applications received before 12.00 noon on Friday 9 December 2016 can be considered.
