Research Fellow 78310-116

University of Warwick - Warwick Medical School, Biomedical Sciences

Full time, Fixed Term position for 18 months.

You will join the Warwick Medical School, AGEomics and Systems Biology Research Group, and contribute to a research programme investigating biomarkers of early detection of disease and disease mechanism. The research seeks to discover and validate biomarkers of arthritis, and also metabolic and vascular health, in a series of pre-clinical and clinical studies – see recent publications, Ahmed et al., Scientific Reports 5: 9259, 2015, Biomarkers in Medicine 9, 943 – 945, 2015 and Arthritis Research & Therapy 18: 250, 2016.

You will perform metabolite and protein-based biomarker validation and assist with coordination of the analytical methodology employed in the project – mostly stable isotopic dilution analysis liquid chromatography-tandem mass spectrometry (LC-MS/MS). This will include undertaking metabolite and protein-related candidate biomarker assays and assisting with the coordination of analysis schedules – drafting standard operating procedures, liaising with collaborating laboratories and arranging for sample shipments.

You will have a PhD (or equivalent) in biochemistry, cellular and molecular biology, clinical chemistry, analytical chemistry, or other related subject and will have a successful track record in experimental scientific research. A background in amino acid and protein-based biomarkers and/or LC-MS/MS is an advantage but not essential.

If you have not yet been awarded your PhD but are near submission or have recently submitted your PhD thesis, any offer of employment made to you will be an under-appointment to the post of Research Assistant at Level 5 in the University’s grade structure and with a salary of £28,143. Once your PhD has been awarded and we have evidence of this from you, you will be appointed to the substantive post of Research Fellow at Level 6 and with a salary within the range stated above.
