Associate Lecturer (Education & Scholarship)

The College wishes to recruit a full-time Associate Lecturer (Education and Scholarship) in Physical Geography on a 6-month fixed-term basis, to work with academics in support of the delivery of the BSc Geography Programme. This post is available from 01.01.17 to 30.06.17.

The post will include supporting the student learning experience, using a range of approaches and modes of delivery appropriate to the teaching allocated. Precise duties will depend on expertise and experience, but it is anticipated that this role will involve contributions to:

  • final-year classes on aspects of earth surface processes;
  • 2nd year classes on hydrology and geomorphology;
  • 2nd year BSc Geography fieldwork and fieldtrips;
  • 1st and 2nd year group tutorial and research design classes.

This post is an opportunity for a well-qualified and motivated candidate to gain valuable experience of working in a leading, research-intensive Geography department. The successful applicant will possess a depth or breadth of specialist knowledge demonstrated by a PhD (completed or nearing completion), or equivalent qualification/experience, of core knowledge relating to Physical Geography in order to teach and support learning in the areas outlined above. Staff at this level are expected to achieve Associate Fellow of the HEA within two years of appointment (if not already achieved) and to attend formal CPD relating to this.
