The Role

The ORX Senior Research Manager role is a challenging and rewarding opportunity to work with the foremost figures from the Operational Risk sector of the financial services industry. The individual will lead important elements of the ORX Research Program, creating consensus and facilitating change at an industry level.

The successful candidate will join a growing team who support the Head of Analytics and Research in the delivery of the ORX Research Program. The ORX Research Program provides Operational Risk Measurement and Management research projects to the financial services industries. These range from best practice exercises to original research, and include qualitative and quantitative studies.

An important focus of the role will to lead the development of ORX projects, products and initiatives.

The Senior Research Manager will need to be an effective manager, a robust facilitator, an excellent communicator and a confident thought leader.

ORX success is delivered from leveraging the data and expertise from within our membership.

Key responsibilities will include:

  • To define, propose, sponsor and execute member led research projects
  • To research, plan, monitor and review the ORX Research business plan and strategy
  • Manage the project work of a small research team and internal participant groups
  • To build strong relationships with all ORX participant members
  • To communicate effectively with the ORX membership, in particular to be effective in canvassing member opinion
  • To be the driving force and energy behind elements of the ORX Research Program
  • To manage the work and relations of ORX Steering Group and Contact Groups, including the organisation of agenda, meetings, and work programme
  • To present research findings at ORX forums and other industry meetings

Candidate profile

The preferred candidate will possess at least a Master’s degree and have a significant amount of management and research experience.


  • Demonstrable success in the facilitation of research projects
  • Demonstrable success in research project and program management
  • Track record of intellectually curiosity and entrepreneurship
  • Interest in economics and finance
  • Demonstrable experience of leading the development of engaging data analysis and reporting
  • Capability to understand and summarise complex concepts
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, particularly those acquired in working with remote customers and suppliers
  • Experience of operating in an international environment
  • Success in influencing senior management
  • Good IT skills, in particular Microsoft Office applications and web-based communication


  • Knowledge of banking and financial services

Working conditions

The position is based in the Bath office, but for the right candidate flexible and part-remote working will be considered. The general office equipment required to support the position will be provided.


Overseas travel in Europe 2 trips per year, 1 rest of the world. Otherwise as required.

A competitive salary is negotiable depending upon experience and includes potentially significant performance related pay.
