The School of Visual Communication at Swansea College of Art, UWTSD is an innovative and lively School encompassing Advertising and Brand Design, Graphic Design and Illustration. The school has an outstanding reputation in preparing students for the creative and communication industries.
Applications are invited from individuals with the appropriate knowledge and experience to deliver an exciting blend of teaching and learning on the BA/MDES Advertising and Brand Design programme. The post-holder will have a clear understanding of contemporary communication strategies in Advertising and Brand Design, including social media and emerging technologies, along with a clear understanding of traditional advertising and marketing techniques. They should be digitally literate and also be able to demonstrate an in-depth knowledge and critical understanding of advertising and brand development, preferably developed from professional experience. It is essential that they support the programme in providing an excellent and stimulating experience for students.
The post-holder will be required to devise a range of teaching and assessment materials, covering several modules and subject areas. The post-holder will deliver teaching in a variety of different learning environments and use a variety of teaching styles and approaches, including all levels of undergraduate study and, where appropriate, postgraduate study. The post holder will offer both academic and pastoral feedback and support to students to the highest professional standards and with regard to the ongoing enhancement of the student experience.
The post-holder will undertake scholarship, research, training or project work, either individually or within a team, to ensure ongoing professional development and to enhance the profile of the School, Faculty and University. The post-holder will make a positive contribution to the day to day activities of the School that may cover areas such as dissertation supervision, student recruitment, marketing activities, research seminars and workshops, staff training and professional development. Candidates will have a 1st or 2.1 undergraduate degree. Additionally, an appropriate postgraduate qualification, or proven extensive commercial experience of working in industry or independently is essential.
This post is primarily concerned with supporting and delivering learning, teaching and assessment of BA/MEDES Advertising and Brand Design across our portfolio of BA/MDes/MA programmes. However, the successful candidate would be expected to contribute to other technical and academic aspects of the programme management and delivery and to support learning across the wider School and Faculty where appropriate.
