Project Manager, SMARTLINE Project

4 days per week for 3 years, 1 February 2017 – 31 January 2020.

An exciting opportunity has arisen for a Project Manager (0.8FTE) to run our recently funded SMARTLINE project.

The SMARTLINE project, with an overall budget of 4.7million pounds, is a research and innovation project aimed at supporting the growth of the eHealth and eWellbeing small and medium enterprise (SME) sector in Cornwall. Through the identification and support for products, processes and services that will improved the health and wellbeing of social housing tenants and build the cohesion of their communities, the project aims to stimulate and support SME development. This is a partnership project involving the University of Exeter, Coastline Housing, Volunteer Cornwall, Cornwall Council and the South West Academic Health Science Network.

SMARTLINE is supported by funding from the European Regional Development Fund, part of the European Structural and Investment Funds, and as such, business support and engagement is fundamental to the delivery of the project and a key aspect of all posts within it.

The Project involves academics from across the University, and is based at the internationally regarded, European Centre for Environment and Human Health ( in the University of Exeter Medical School in Truro.

The Project Manager will have overall responsibility for the delivery of this project. S/he will:

  • ensure the project operates in compliance with the rules and regulations of the ERDF and University
  • record and retain appropriate project records, and be ‘audit ready’
  • manage relationships with partners, stakeholders, SME beneficiaries and project participants to ensure smooth delivery of project activities
  • keep the project to spend and output targets
  • line manage the professional services team within the project
  • support and report to the SMARTLINE Management Group and Advisory Board

The successful candidate will be an experienced project manager, with a track record of working in partnership to successfully deliver projects to time and budget. S/he will have an understanding of the SME sector and the opportunities and barriers small enterprises face as well as good IT skills and understanding. S/he will also be an experienced line manager with a proven track record in building a teams, and a positive, problem solving attitude.
