Reporting to the Learning and Qualifications Director, the Syllabus Manager is responsible for managing the review, refreshment and development of the syllabuses for ABRSM’s Graded Music Exams and other assessments. The role involves working in close collaboration with colleagues, inside and outside ABRSM, to ensure that each syllabus is relevant to the needs of learners and teachers and aligns with ABRSM’s musical aims. Responsibilities include managing the processes relating to the ongoing review of exam requirements, the publication of revised and new syllabuses and the compliance of ABRSM’s qualifications with the conditions of recognition of relevant regulatory bodies in relation to exam specifications.
We are looking for someone who is educated to at least postgraduate level in Music, or with equivalent experience, who has a sympathy for a wide range of musical styles and genres and a broad knowledge of repertoire. Knowledge of the regulation/accreditation of qualifications is essential, preferably with experience working within a regulated environment, as is experience of teaching music and/or experience within an education environment. You must have solid project management skills and be accustomed to handling several projects concurrently. We would also expect you to have experience of using research and data to make evidence-based judgements and decisions.
