The Department of Physics proposes to appoint an Associate Professor (equivalent to Lecturer) or Professor in the Theory of Quantum Condensed Matter with effect from 1 October 2017 or as soon thereafter as possible. The successful candidate will also be offered a Tutorial Fellowship at Hertford College, under arrangements described in the further particulars. The combined University and College salary will be according to experience on a scale from £45,562 p.a.; plus a College housing allowance of £8,437 p.a. or single accommodation in College free of charge (if available); and equity-sharing house purchase scheme. An allowance of £2,655 p.a. would be payable upon award of Full Professor title.
The Associate Professor will join the well-established and successful Oxford condensed matter theory group, whose research interests encompass many aspects of quantum matter in and out of equilibrium. We seek to appoint a candidate who complements and enhances the existing programme and will engage productively with colleagues in other parts of the Physics Department, potentially including those working on varied aspects of theoretical physics, on experimental condensed matter physics, and on atomic physics and quantum information.
The successful candidate will hold a doctorate in theoretical physics, or a related subject, and will have a proven record of high-quality creative research in theoretical quantum condensed matter physics at an international level. She or he will be expected to develop a world-leading research programme, to teach at undergraduate and graduate level, and participate in the administration of Hertford College and the Physics Department.
Further particulars, containing details of the application procedure and of the duties, may be obtained below or from Professor John Chalker (email: firstname.lastname@example.org or tel: 01865 273973).
The closing date for applications is 12.00 noon on 3 January 2017. Please quote departmental reference PMC/TQCM/2016/1 on all correspondence. Applicants should ensure that their referees send letters by the same deadline. Interviews for shortlisted candidates will be held during February and March 2017.
Applications are particularly welcome from women and black and minority ethnic candidates, who are under-represented in academic posts in Oxford.
