Manchester Metropolitan University - The Design Department

Average weekly working hours: 37.00

The Design Department is an award-winning department with a long and established history. It is home to the most outstanding thinkers, doers, makers, designers, creatives, artists, creative leaders and educators.

The department values and fosters a highly integrative approach of research and enterprise combined with learning and teaching. We encourage the cross-pollination of ideas, processes and people. We always aim for the highest standards in what we do. Navigating our way through culture, we observe, think and act. We challenge the conventional and are always professional. We work in new exploratory creative ways and enhance the quality of our lives.

Fashion is a multi-award winning subject encouraging students to be visionary, creative, innovative risk-takers, whilst developing a sound understanding of the fashion industry. Students are at the centre of an inventive, forward thinking design community through a close relationship with other design courses. This multi-disciplinary approach allows for a rich student experience that echoes the collaborative nature of industry.

The subject is led by strong conceptual thinking and uses a contextual and theoretical underpinning to enable students to take a broad and brave view of fashion, to critically question and challenge the idea of fashion and push its boundaries.
