Data Librarian  SEACAMS 2 ENVOKH

Bangor University - School of Ocean Sciences (Centre for Applied Marine Sciences – CAMS)

SEACAMS 2 (Sustainable Expansion of the Coastal and Marine Sectors 2) is a collaborative project between Bangor University and Swansea University. This post is part-funded by the EU’s West Wales and the Valleys European Regional Development Fund (ERDF) Operational Programme through the Welsh Government. The Environmental Knowledge Systems Hub (ENVOKH) is a constituent part of SEACAMS2 focusing on marine data and derived products.

ENVOKH aspires to derive more value from marine data by developing innovative new ways of using data that will in turn address the needs of businesses in the marine sector. Crucially for this to be possible data must be properly managed and stored with future discoverability considered from the outset.

Applications are invited for the post of ENVOKH Data Librarian. The post holder will play an important role in assisting scientists in ensuring data is deposited in repositories using correct vocabulary and metadata. Where necessary metadata schemas will be reviewed and extended. The post holder will support the Systems Architect by assisting in the development of the workflows and processes necessary to record data. Where necessary this person will work with external organisations to extend existing best practice in marine data curation.

The post holder will be educated to degree level or substantial and equivalent qualifications or experience in a data focused discipline and will also be a professional within the field of data management. Specific knowledge of marine data curation would be an advantage.

The successful candidates will be expected to start as soon as possible; the post is available initially until 31st July 2019, with the possibility of extension.

Applications will only be accepted via our on-line recruitment website, jobs.bangor.ac.uk. However, in cases of access issues due to disability, paper application forms are available by telephoning 01248 383865.

Closing date for applications: 15 December 2016. The Interviews will be held on 20 December 2016.
