Applications are invited for this Clinical PhD training programme to commence in autumn 2017. Led by the London School of Hygiene & Tropical Medicine, the PhD Programme is offered by the five partner institutions of the Wellcome Trust Bloomsbury Centre for Global Health Research in collaboration with Brighton and Sussex Medical School bringing together the expertise of these institutions in global health research.
The focus of the Wellcome Clinical PhD Programme in Global Health Research is on research focussing on the health problems of low and middle-income countries. Successful applicants will develop their potential to become academic clinicians within a structured and mentored training environment. The Wellcome Trust’s PhD Training Fellowships for Clinicians are aimed at supporting the most promising clinicians who wish to undertake rigorous research training. Support is for three years and includes a clinical salary, research expenses, general training funds and travel costs.
Applicants must be fully-qualified medical doctors, have a right to work in the UK, be eligible for home/EU PhD fees and will be expected to have already started their specialist training. They must demonstrate academic excellence and a commitment to pursuing a career as an academic clinician with an interest in global health.
This is a full time, fixed term post for 3 years based at one of the partner/host institutions: The London School of Hygiene and Tropical Medicine; University College London; King’s College London; Queen Mary University of London; Barts and The London School of Medicine & Dentistry; St George’s, University of London; or Brighton and Sussex Medical School. Candidates accept that, if successful, they may be awarded a fellowship at any of the six partner institutions.
Appointments will be made to an appropriate point on the National Clinical Academic Salary scale below the level of consultant: £32,156 to £56,875 per annum (plus £2,162 London allowance if applicable.)
