Postdoctoral Research Assistant (Molecular and Cellular Technologies underpinning Drug Discovery)

The University currently has an 18-month fixed term Postdoctoral Research Assistant position to take forward research funded by the Motor Neurone Disease Association to develop and utilise novel cell-based assays to monitor aggregation of TDP-43 in cell lines and primary neurones. The work is aimed to contribute to finding a cure for Motor Neurone Disease. The purpose of the project is to develop a robust assay that can be used for screening compounds, and we envisage the post holder will screen compound libraries as part of the project.

The successful applicant will join the vibrant Pharmacology and Experimental Therapeutics Research Group aimed at defining, understanding and exploiting therapeutic targets in important disease areas, with a focus on neuroprotection and vascular health. You will work directly with Dr Ritchie Williamson and Professor Marcus Rattray, and you will work collaboratively with an ambitious group of recently appointed academic staff and PhD students and contribute to research activity in the School.

You will need to be both enthusiastic and committed to the development of high-quality research. The group benefits from substantial recent investment in equipment for molecular and cellular research underpinning drug discovery, including a Molecular Devices Flexstation 3 for plate-based assays, microscopy and image analysis and a bespoke cell culture facility.
