Abertay is a modern university with a global outlook, rooted in its local and national communities. We have made our mark with high quality, well-directed teaching and research, and a stimulating and enriching experience for our students.
The University now seeks to appoint a Research Fellow within the Maths and Computing Division in the School of Arts, Media and Computer Games. The successful candidate will participate in the EPSRC STEPPING UP project, with the involvement of 8 partner institutions across the UK: University of Manchester, University of Surrey, University of Exeter, University of Glasgow, Cranfield University, Loughborough University, HR Wallingford and Science & Technology Facilities Council.
Abertay University will support the design and development of the Agent Based Modelling (ABM) of the interlinked Water, Energy and Food systems and lead the work on “Supporting Decision Making”. The primary tasks of the post are concerned with the design, development and testing of the ABM in conjunction with researchers located at project partner institutions (Cranfield, Surrey and Manchester in particular). A flexible collaborative approach is required, which will include visiting and working within partner institutions. Following implementation of the ABM, other tasks are concerned with the design, implementation and evaluation (considering interface usability) of a decision support tool based on web-technology. The successful applicant will demonstrate strong practical ability in mathematical programming (C/C++) ideally supported by software engineering competency. Additional skills and interest in areas such as computer graphics, web technology, cross platform development, UX and deployment would be valuable.
Reporting to Dr Ruth E Falconer, you will lead the development of interactive web-based tools for data visualisation and decision-making and support the development of an Agent Based Model, this requires a creative individual with a strong programming background.
