Summary of Job Purpose and Principal Duties
Applications are invited for a postdoctoral position in the Fuller lab to investigate the impact of NCX1 palmitoylation on NCX1 function and Ca handling in cardiac muscle. We have recently reported that palmitoylation regulates NCX1 activity (FASEB J. 2015 29(11):4532-43; Channels (Austin). 2016 10(2):75-7). Now, with the support of BHF Special Project Grant we plan to investigate the importance of this regulatory mechanism for cardiac function and calcium handling using a transgenic approach. The project will involve a range of state-of-the-art techniques including whole cell voltage clamping, calcium imaging, microscopy, FRET, gene silencing and quantitative mass spectrometry as well as experimental models of cardiac injury and remodelling.

An individual with knowledge of cell physiology is sought. Experience with whole-cell voltage clamping is essential, and experience measuring intracellular calcium desirable. This post offers considerable potential for training in a range of cell and molecular biology techniques, both within the Division of Molecular & Clinical Medicine at Ninewells Hospital in Dundee, as well as in the laboratory of our collaborator in the USA.
