Science Communications Officer

Institute of Cancer Research - Communications

Length of Contract: 3 Months

The Institute of Cancer Research, London, is one of the world’s most influential cancer research organisations. We are world leaders in identifying cancer genes, discovering new targeted cancer drugs and developing precision radiotherapy.

The Institute of Cancer Research (ICR) is looking for a talented and enthusiastic Science Communications Officer to create content for our website, print publications and email newsletters. You will be writing news, features and blogs about the ICR’s cutting-edge cancer research, and helping produce interactive content such as videos and infographics. The role will also involve editing of content and overseeing the production process for publications and digital projects.

You will need to be able to get across complex messages about the ICR’s science and its benefit for patients in an engaging, easily understandable manner. A degree in a scientific subject will be essential, and you will be an excellent writer with creative flair and a good visual sense. Design skills would be a strong advantage.

You are likely to have experience of working in science communication as a writer online or in print, and of tailoring complex messages for non-scientific audiences. You will need to be good at working in partnership with other teams too, because the role involves producing content on behalf of internal and external partners. It’s vital that you have a passion for cancer research, and the ability to plan, prioritise and deliver work within a busy team.

Interviews will take place on the 15th and 16th of December 2016.
