The University of London Senate House Library is now seeking two Library Assistants to join their Customer Services team on a 6 month fixed term basis. Please note these are full time positions based on 35 hours per week, to be worked Monday to Saturday inclusive, in accordance with the prevailing rotas of attendance. The post holder will also be required to work two late evenings from 1:00pm until 9:00pm.
Senate House Library
Senate House Library is the central library for the University of London, and the home library for the School of Advanced Study. We offer access and research support to collections covering Arts, Humanities and Social Science and are home to a number of unique and distinctive Special Collections in the heart of London’s student and research community.
As a Library Assistant, you will be responsible for greeting, directing visitors and providing support for membership activities. You will be responsible for issuing, return and renewal of materials, processing library notices and requests for materials held in closed onsite and offsite stores. In addition to this you will be the first point of contact for enquires from library members including face-to-face by telephone and email and will be asked to refer more complex enquires to second line staff when appropriate. You will additionally support library members with using the full range of services including the online discovery system and Library website. You will also be required to sustain familiarity and expertise in the Library’s collection, catalogue and equipment.
To succeed in the role you will need to have had previous experience of working in a customer facing role, hold excellent organisational, interpersonal and communication skills and demonstrate experience of working in a busy customer facing role. Additionally you would have used various Library management and resource discovery systems.
