Director of Development and Alumni Relations
University of Oxford - Exeter College
|Salary:||Competitive Salary and Benefits|
|Placed on:||24th November 2016|
|Closes:||3rd January 2017|
Exeter College is embarking on a new phase, with the appointment of Professor Sir Rick Trainor as Rector in 2014, a new quadrangle shortly to be opened, a new strategic plan to be announced, and a renewed campaign to be launched. This is a turning point in the College’s fundraising, and an opportunity to ensure that Exeter becomes a centre of ever greater academic excellence in the 21st century.
At this exciting time to be joining the College, a new Director of Development & Alumni Relations will have an outstanding opportunity to play a significant role in driving the success of the College for the future.
The main duties of the post are as stated in the Information Pack for Candidates, but will include:
- developing and leading a team of fundraisers and alumni relations professionals in widening the international reach of the pool of prospects beyond the UK;
- creating and driving the strategy for all fundraising and alumni relations activity in the College;
- personally identifying, cultivating and soliciting potential benefactors for major gifts and legacy pledges;
- increasing the College’s operating capital (College endowment);
- holding a portfolio of key donors and prospects; and
- playing an active role in College committees, and within the wider collegiate University.
To be successful in this role it is essential to have a proven record in development, particularly major gift fundraising, and highly developed communication and interpersonal skills. Key attributes include a confident leadership style (with the ability to gain the respect of the College’s Governing Body), the ability to think strategically and to implement plans at a practical level, and a record of leading a team successfully. You should also be educated to degree standard, or the equivalent through professional qualifications or experience.
In addition to those already operating at Development Director level, the College will also consider those working as a Deputy Director, a Head of Development or a Senior Development Manager, and who are ready to take a step up into a leadership role.
